Call for Board Nominations
Dear Fellow AFP Member:
As your Immediate Past-Chair of AFP, it is my great honor to chair the Committee of Directorship (COD) for the Association. The COD serves as the nominating committee for AFP—and its responsibilities have never been more important than this year as we complete the transition of our new governance structure.
This is a very exciting time, and we need you to become involved to make the nomination process successful. We want our Board to be representative of the finest leaders in the profession, and we need your input to make that happen!
This year, you or your chapter may nominate any qualified candidate to serve on the board for a seat as a District Director or as an At-large Director. Most of the current district directors are eligible for re-nomination as they have not met the four year term limit. Below, you will find a list of the twelve Districts showing the candidates eligibility. To find the list of Districts and the States within the districts, click here.
District A: Yulanda Davis-Quarrie, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District B: Luce Moreau, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District C: Joshua R. Newton, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District D: Paul Nowak, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District E: John E. Joslin, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District F: Jill A. Pranger, ACFRE (NOT eligible for re-nomination)
District G: Patrick Feeley, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District H: Hazel Richards, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District I: Kevin J. Callanan, CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
District J: William W. Wu, JD (eligible for re-nomination)
District K: Carlos Madrid Varela (eligible for re-nomination)
District L: Ann Hale, M.A., CFRE (eligible for re-nomination)
Additionally, there are two members in the At-large position who are not eligible to serve again. The other six At-large directors are eligible for re-nomination. You can find a complete list of our current board members on our website by clicking here.
I encourage you to nominate any individual who you feel has distinguished herself or himself by serving on the AFP board, held an officer position and/or served in a chapter leadership role for the any of five officer positions. Those positions are: Vice Chair, Membership Division; Vice Chair, External Relations; Vice Chair, Professional Advancement; Secretary and Treasurer.
Remember, you may self nominate, nominate a friend, or get your chapter to nominate you or a friend. However, I would ask that you review the criteria for service and return a completed 2010 nominating form before the July 31, 2009 deadline. Additionally, please be thorough and provide as much information as possible about the candidate. Some candidates may be asked to supply supplementary information to the Committee to ensure thoughtful consideration. Please contact your nominee in advance of submitting the nomination to determine their willingness to serve. Finally, a current resume and photo must accompany the completed Nomination Form.
At the August 2009 meeting, the COD will determine a slate of nine officers, a slate of 12 district directors and a slate of 8 at-large directors to serve on the AFP Board of Directors starting January 2010. As stipulated by the Board approved transition plan in October 2006, board members may serve four years in an at-large director position, and, with at least a one year break in board service, may serve four years in a district director position. The maximum lifetime service of a director is capped at eight years, excluding the chair-elect track.
Remember, the deadline to submit nominations for the Officer or Director Nomination Forms are due on or before July 31, 2009.
The evaluation criteria used by the committee to select Officers and Directors includes:
- Demonstrated leadership ability
- Service to AFP, philanthropy and the community locally and/or nationally
- Particular leadership needs of the Association at the time candidates are being considered
- Certification (Not applicable for candidates outside Canada and US)
- Diversity (all inclusive)
- Type of professional practice
- Support of the AFP Foundation for Philanthropy
- District Representative and Chapter size
- Membership is current and in good standing (has signed the Code of Ethical Principles and Standards)
Thank you in advance for taking an active role in this year’s nomination process and for encouraging your chapter to do the same. Should you have any questions whatsoever about the process, please don’t hesitate to contact me, staff or an esteemed member of the COD listed below. We look forward to hearing from you—and we hope you will use this opportunity to make your voice heard.Sincerely,
Timothy R. Burcham, CFRE
