Wave Academy is dedicated to the use and expansion of Aquatic Bodywork Therapy (ABT) as a powerful tool in the healing and advancement of individuals, families and communities.
Wave Academy was founded by Dave Towe in 2010 with the goal of providing ABT to veterans suffering from post-traumatic stress as well as providing therapy for family members and caregivers.
The Executive Director is responsible for the overall management of Wave Academy, and serves at the pleasure of the Board of Directors. Qualified candidates will have extensive experience within the nonprofit sector, including fundraising and organizational management. They will function as the chief administrative officer of a non-profit corporation, and all that entails, under the supervision of a governing board.
The Executive Director will work directly with the Board of Directors and communicate regularly via phone, texts, emails and written reports. The position requires attendance at Board meetings and participation in Board activities. The Executive Director will have primary responsibility for assuring that administrative functions are accomplished through a clearly defined structure. S/he will also serve as leader of both the administrative and program teams, providing direction and supervision.
The Executive Director will have an annual review conducted by the President of the Board.
Essential Job Functions:
Fundraising & Marketing: 80%
Annual Campaign development and execution including:
*Special events creation and management based on budget and income goals agreed upon by board and staff.
*Utilization of recognized industry best practices.
*Development and implementation of direct response campaigns including web and direct mail.
*Development of corporate campaign/sponsorship plans based on measurable goals and objectives.
*Grants research and submission to appropriate, vetted grant-funding organizations based on measurable goals and achieved objectives.
*Development of a Major & Planned Giving Program implemented with prospect research and utilization of board engagement to ensure success, including donor acknowledgement and stewardship plans implemented.
*Public and Community Relations activity planning and implementation to further the awareness of WA, including ongoing social media awareness efforts, newsletters and press releases.
*Developing relationships with community service organizations, focusing on those networks appropriate to the organization's focus of service.
*Government relations planning and implementation within the context in which the organization does business.
*Database Management including keeping updated CRM records of contact and data expansion.
*Board relationship management, including increasing board membership and engagement.
*Fiscal oversight, including ongoing engagement with accountant and communication with Board.
*Enforcement of policies and procedures.
*Oversight of program activities, which include staffing for all programs, budget responsibilities, scheduling of all practitioners, and enrollment of new clients.
*Encouragement and evaluation of professional development of personnel.
Education & Experience
In addition to a commitment to Wave Academy’s mission and a desire to serve more fragile members of our community, qualified candidates must have at least five years executive level experience in a not-for-profit position with a focus on fund development and mission advancement. Education and experience should be equivalent of a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree from an accredited college or university. Past experience working in the San Diego County market is strongly desired.
