Laboratory/Department: Development The Development department has primary responsibility to implement and execute strategies to meet Salk's specific fundraising needs through local, national and international philanthropic efforts. Position Description: Incumbent is responsible for the prospect research analysis for the Institute's Development Department. Provides background information on a wide variety of constituents for use by Salk Institute management and faculty in pursuit of private funding for research initiatives and other activities. Identifies and qualifies donor prospects with the propensity and capacity to support system-wide initiatives and special target development areas. Incumbent assists the Director of Annual Giving with the Annual Fund Program which includes donors up to $2,500. Identifies and develops core reports and utilizes analysis of data and trends to develop meaningful projections, strategies, and goals. Ensures proper stewardship of Annual Fund donors. Works in collaboration with many members of the Development Services staff, as well as the Development/Communications team to ensure success of the department for the benefit of the Institute. Education: Bachelor's degree in a relevant field or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in an Academic environment, is required. Experience: Required: 3-5 years of prospect research in a sizeable non-profit. Previous experience identifying, researching, or analyzing prospect information. Preferred: Previous experience recommending donor prospecting strategies. Special Requirements: Satisfactory completion of the Institute’s background investigation. Ability to work a flexible schedule as needed based on workload and deadlines. Willing to sign an Employee Confidentiality Agreement. Satisfactory completion of the Institute’s background investigation. Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment. Physical Requirements: This position requires constant seeing, adjusting focus, touching/feeling, keying, talking, hearing, lifting 0-20 pounds, reading, calculating, reasoning, analyzing, communicating, and working inside.
