Teach For America – San Diego is seeking a full-time Development Coordinator to join our Development team as we strive to meet our highly ambitious annual fundraising targets. The Development Coordinator will be responsible for establishing an annual fund, grant writing, prospect research, managing donor stewardship, and providing administrative support for the development team and Executive Director. In addition, the Development Coordinator will participate in regional and national team activities, such as the selection and matriculation of the next year’s teaching corps, and regional retreats and staff meetings. The Coordinator will report directly to the Manager of Development.
 
The Team
Teach For America San Diego (TFA-SD) launched in 2013, with the express purpose of helping our region move even more quickly toward a day when all children in San Diego can have access to an excellent education. Since inception, nearly 75 corps members and 300 alumni, along with countless community partners, have joined our ‘small but mighty’ staff in this quest.

 

Responsibilities
Regional and Executive Director Administrative Support (20%)
  • Manage the Executive Director’s day-to-day calendar with external and internal meetings, conference calls, travel arrangements, and expenditures – and look for ways to increase the Executive Director’s efficiency
  • Complete reimbursements and mileage reports on behalf of Executive Director
  • Serve as the reception contact for the regional office by working primarily at reception desk; ensure exceptional representation of the organization to staff, corps members, alumni, and external visitors
  • Provide support for special projects, as needed
 
Development Support (30%)
  • Input, maintain and update funder information in our internal constituent management database (SalesForce) based on Teach For America protocol
  • Track and report development team progress against goals and share weekly updates
  • Process and document contributions, prepare gift acknowledgements, and track and send gift reminders
  • Ensure proper gift processing, documentation, and adherence to financial regulations
  • Coordinate logistics for development events and meetings, as needed
 
Cultivation and Stewardship of Donors and Prospects (30%)
  • Coordinate and conduct research on new and existing donors to identify motivations and barriers to contributing to our organization and potential levers to deepen their connection to and support of our work
  • Plan and execute five (5) donor cultivation events per fiscal year
  • Assist with marketing collateral execution including basic design and layout
  • Establish and execute an annual fund campaign
  • Manage donor stewardship campaigns (including quarterly donor newsletter, mailings, etc.)
 
Grant Writing (20%)
  • Write compelling corporate and foundation grant proposals, which align with giving priorities
  • Ensure all regional and national grants are submitted according to posted procedures and deadlines
 
Requirements

Prior Experience:
  • Knowledge of SalesForce is preferred but not required

Education
  • Bachelor's degree and at least 1-3 years’ experience required
