The Development department has primary responsibility to implement and execute strategies to meet Salk's specific fundraising needs through local, national and international philanthropic efforts.
The Director, Development Services provides leadership, creative problem solving, and strategy oversight of development services in support of the Institute's established fund raising initiatives, and enhances development operations to ensure high standards of quality, accuracy, and transparency around donor information, reporting, and procedures. Provides guidance and recommendations to Development Officers in their fundraising strategies and in how to best utilize the database and reporting functions of Salesforce.
Establishes and maintains an effective interface between and with IT, Stewardship, Major Gifts, and the rest of the External Relations team, the Office of the President, and other units as needed. Oversees services including, but not limited to prospect research, prospect management and tracking, fund raising analysis and specialized reporting, gift processing, Salesforce training and maintenance, database management, establishment of user-friendly report mechanisms, including pipeline development, annual fund, major gifts, and event analysis and reporting.
Position will oversee database conversion to the Salesforce platform. Will ensure the maximization of efficiency during and after the completion of the conversion and will capitalize on the full features and benefits of the system for all External Relations unit needs. Oversees the establishment and ongoing involvement of conversion committees, and committees developed as a result of the conversion to meet on-going database needs.
Bachelor's Degree in related field and at least 5 years experience in advancement services for a non-profit or educational environment or equivalent combination of experience and education.
Proven experience in project and program management and managing teams. Proven ability to develop guidelines and metrics to track effectiveness of projects and processes. Proven experience in problem solving and resolution through group processes, with aptitude for working as part of a team and displaying a sense of ethical conduct Three years experience with program budget management. Minimum 5 years experience in advancement services for a non-profit or educational environment.
3 years of Salesforce Administration experience. Previous re-engineering experience migrating into a Salesforce platform. Certified Salesforce Administrator.
Must be willing to work in an animal-related research environment. Must be willing to sign an employee confidentiality agreement Satisfactory completion of the Institute's background investigation. Will require occasional evenings and weekends to assist with events.
This position requires constant seeing, keying, hearing, reading, reasoning, analyzing and communicating.
